Waste oil of Esfahan Oil Refinery, located in Iran's Esfahan province, is successfully used in the Ardistan Cement Plant, Mohsun Muradmand, head of research and technology department of Iran's Esfahan Oil Refinery, said.

The oil refining industry has a big volume of waste, including waste oil, Muradmand added, Trend reports referring to Iran's Esfahan Oil Refinery’s website.

He added that there are a number of issues concerning waste at refineries worldwide. On the other hand, according to the environmental laws, the disposal of these substances in surrounding areas is banned.

Muradmand said that as one of the main oil refineries in Iran, the Esfahan Oil Refinery was also facing the problem of accumulating oil-containing waste.

He added that a pilot project was prepared to consider the use of waste oil in the cement production process.

Muradmand said that the method of using waste oil in cement production and the probable problems in the production process were first considered to eliminate environmental pollution.

Taking into account the situation in the Esfahan Oil Refinery, the waste was tested repeatedly at the Ardistan cement plant in terms of chemical composition, water percentage, oil percentage, temperature and a special formula was prepared, he said.

Muradmand said that the results of this project will show that the pilot project can also be used in other refineries.
