Second stage of NPP construction kicks off in Uzbekistan

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and Russian state-owned corporation Rosatom signed a roadmap for the implementation of the main activities of the second phase of the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan in 2019-2020, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

The first stage of engineering surveys on the choice of a site for the construction of a nuclear power plant has completed.

In the second stage, an assessment of environmental impacts and technical documentation should be carried out.

The document was signed by Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Alisher Sultanov, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Director General of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev. The ceremony took place on May 15 in Tashkent as part of the opening of the exhibition Oil & Gas Uzbekistan, as well as the exhibition Power Uzbekistan.

The document prescribes the algorithm for preparing the source data for the development of an environmental impact assessment and instructions for creating a preliminary report on safety justification. The document also includes the stages of preparation and coordination of contracts for project implementation.

In February, promising areas near Lake Tuzkan and Tudacul reservoir were identified as potential sites for the construction of nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
