By Fakhri Vakilov - Trend:

Uzbekistan plans to build two more units of a power station, 1.2 GW each, Trend reports citing Kun.uz news agency.

The Minister of Energy of Alisher Sultanov stated that in addition to the already planned complex consisting of two power units, in the future, two additional units with a capacity of 1200 MW can be built.

As the minister noted, the construction of additional units of the same capacity will be much less time-consuming and resource-intensive, since the production process will already be arranged.

Thus, the capacity of the future nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan can be doubled.

In September 2018, an intergovernmental agreement was signed on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan under the Russian project. Rosatom is planning to build a complex of two generation 3+ units with VVER-1200 reactor units. The first power unit is scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2028.

In October 2018, the project was launched.
