Ashgabat, Tehran mull energy security issues

The Turkmen Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting with a member of the Energy Commission of the Iranian Parliament and Chairman of the Iranian-Turkmen Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Kourosh Karam pour Haghighi, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including energy, transport, culture, education and inter-parliamentary ties.

Noting that Turkmenistan and Iran are strategically important partners, the guest stressed the important role of Turkmenistan in ensuring regional energy security and maintaining peace, the report said.

The parties stated that there are great opportunities for the further development of Turkmen-Iranian relations based on the principles of good-neighborliness and mutual respect.

Turkmenistan and Iran border on the Caspian Sea and have a long land border. Over the years of long-term cooperation, they have implemented a number of large-scale joint projects.

As of February 1, 2018, 89 investment projects have been registered in Turkmenistan with the participation of Iranian companies, the total value of which makes up $1,310.95 million, 0.8 million euro and 0.81 million Turkmenistan manats (TMT).

According to the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, there are 142 enterprises of various forms of ownership with the participation of Iranian capital, including limited partnerships, subsidiaries, representative offices, and branches.
