Deputy minister: About 4,000 mines inactive in Iran

About 4,000 mines are inactive in Iran, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and Head of Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) Khodadad Gharibpour said, Trend reports with reference to the organization’s website.

He said that according to statistics, 98.3 percent of Iranian mines are small scale mines.

He added that the government wants to activate small-scale mines with the participation of private sector. “Some 85 percent of the employment at mines account for small scale mines,” he said.

He noted that 65 percent of production accounts for small scale mines.

He added that this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), 150 mines will be activated and minimum 1,000 people will be employed.

“The export of products of the small-scale mines remains in the focus,” he said.
