Uzbek TPP launches first gas turbine

Turakurgan thermal power plant (TPP) in Namangan region of Uzbekistan launched the first gas turbine on August 5, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

The TPP will operate in test mode, and from November it will work at full capacity.

The deadline for the first installation was scheduled for September 2019; the second unit will be launched in November this year. The new type of power units will allow doubling the amount of electricity produced per unit of spent fuel compared to traditional thermal power plants.

The experts states that the efficiency of combined cycle plants will be about 59 percent, and this is twice as much as the parameters of traditional steam generating stations; emissions into the atmosphere during the operation of power units are reduced by almost half.

The launch of the Turakurgan TPP will create 900 MW of additional capacity, or 7 billion kW / h of electricity per year, and will ensure the main electricity demand of the Fergana Valley - Namangan, Andijan and Fergana Regions.

Over 2,400 domestic and foreign workers are involved in the construction.
