Today it’s difficult to say what impact the depreciation of lari will have on the new natural gas tariff in Georgia, but the depreciation of the currency will be taken into account when setting the new tariff, said Irina Milorava, chairman of the National Commission for Regulation of Energy and Water Supply of Georgia (GNERC), Trend reports citing bm.ge.
“The fact that the depreciation of lari has an impact on natural gas tariffs cannot be denied. The tariff setting process will be completed in December, and then we will make the final decision,” said Milorava.
She said that gas tariffs were reduced last year by reducing the profit of the Gas Transportation Company.
“Last year, we also experienced changes in the lari exchange rate. Then the price of natural gas fell down. For example, in the case of KazTransGas, the tariff of $105 was reduced to $103.7 per 1000 cubic meters. We still have time until the end of December. However, the new tariff will largely depend on the lari rate, ” she said.
