BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct.22

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

BP is planning to start the 3D seismic activities in the D230 area in Azerbaijan in November 2019, BP Azerbaijan told Trend.

The company said it will be using the Gilavar seismic vessel (operated by Caspian Geo).

“Two additional support vessels will also be involved - one for guard duties and one for resupply,” said BP.

On April 26, 2018, SOCAR and BP signed a PSA for joint exploration of the prospective block D230 in the North Absheron basin in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The parties have equal equity shares in the agreement.

Earlier, Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey (AGT) at BP Gary Jones told Trend that depending on the results of the seismic survey, drilling of the first exploration well on the block may start in the middle of next year.

He noted that block D230 is considered promising in terms of the presence of oil reserves.
