BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 28
By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:
Gas production will reach one billion cubic meters daily in Iran as a result of the work which will be carried out in the coming months and next Iranian year (begins on March 21, 2020), Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.
Rouhani made the remark at the event in Tehran province dedicated to the implementation of 27 water and electric power projects, Trend reports referring to IRNA.
“An increase in gas production is one of the main issues on the agenda,” the president said.
President Rouhani added that Iran was unable to carry out so much work previously and had no gas reserves in such a volume.
The Iranian president said that daily consumption of gas in Iran reached 600 million cubic meters, which is a big volume.
President Rouhani said that before the current government (which came to power in August 2013), this volume of gas was not produced and gas was supplied with interruptions.
Iran ranks second in the world in terms of gas reserves. Some 17 percent of the world's gas reserves (33 trillion cubic meters) account for Iran. The biggest gas field in the world is the South Pars gas field (this field is called North Dome in Qatar), located between Iran and Qatar. Gas consumption in Iran has reached nearly 600 million cubic meters a day recently.
Twenty-seven water and electric power projects worth 10.7 trillion rials (about $256 million) were commissioned in Iran's Tehran province.
