BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 13
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Oil product deliveries to Georgia in 2019 increased by 5.7 percent compared to 2018 and reached 1.41 million tons, Trend reports citing the report of the independent international price agency Argus Media.
According to the report, the main growth was in bitumen and AI-95 gasoline. The import of the AI-95 gasoline for the reporting period increased by 15.5 percent, up to 177,000 tons compared to 2018. The increase in demand for high-octane gas is associated with more active use of hybrid cars in the country, as well as stricter technical control over the state of the fleet by the state.
As reported, Russia is still the main importer of petroleum products to the country; in 2019, the share of the Russian Federation accounted for 42.5 percent of gasoline imports.
The list of major suppliers of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia, according to Argus, also includes Romania, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.
“Georgia does not have its own large refineries and imports fuel from the Black Sea and Caspian regions. Two small plants operate in the country, which produce limited volumes of oil products,” sais Argus Media.
Major suppliers of fuel to the Georgian market are Wissol, Petrocas Energy (Gulf network of gas stations), the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan SOCAR, Rompetrol and Lukoil.
Features of the oil product market in the Caspian region will be examined in detail at the second Argus International Oil Summit in Azerbaijan, which will be held on March 12-13, 2020, in Baku.
The forum will gather the largest regional players in the oil, transport, trade and oil refining industries.
