TEHRAN, Iran, Feb.24
Trend:
Iran continues the export of non-oil goods to Afghanistan and maintains its role in the market, said Iranian Commercial advisor in Afghanistan.
"Afghanistan, which has no access to the sea, has special relations with Iran in transit sector," said Mohammad Mehdi Javanmard Ghasab, Trend reports citing Iran's Customs Administration website.
"While Iran has preserved its place in the Afghan market, transit goods continue to be transported to Afghanistan from Karachi or Bandar Abbas port. Currently, we seek to replace Bandar Abbas port with Chabahar port," the advisor said.
"Chabahar port is exempted from the sanctions," he said. "We need Afghanistan to have transit access to Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan," he added.
"About 40 percent of Afghanistan import is from Iran," the official said.
The number and volume of transit trucks and goods have decreased by 40 percent in past five years from 17.526 tons to 10.000 tons.
Iran's Customs Administration held a meeting on Feb. 24 to discuss conditions of transit route that was attended by officials of transportation industry.
