The value of oil and gas industry merger and acquisition (M&A) deals in February 2020 marked a decrease of 37.8 percent over the previous month, Trend reports citing GlobalData’s deals database.

GlobalData said that deals worth $5.6 billion were announced globally in February 2020.

The value marked a drop of 82.9 percent when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $32.62 billion.

“Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $2.19 billion. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $2.04 billion,” said the company.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for oil & gas industry M&A deals globally, followed by Asia-Pacific and then Europe.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in February 2020 was the US with 32 deals, followed by Canada with 11 and the UK with ten.

In 2020, as of the end of February 2020, oil & gas M&A deals worth $14.59 billion were announced globally, marking a decrease of 44.6 percent year on year.

The top five oil & gas industry M&A deals accounted for 46.2 percent of the overall value during February 2020.

The combined value of the top five oil & gas M&A deals stood at $2.58 billion, against the overall value of $5.6 billion recorded for the month.

The $490.92 million acquisition of Viva Energy REIT by Charter Hall Group and Charter Hall Long WALE REIT

Carrefour Brazil’s $453.47 million asset transaction with Makro Atacadista

The $280.5 million asset transaction by Euronav

Elengy’s acquisition of Fosmax Lng for $260 million.
