Iranian Ministry of Energy intends to increase the production of alternative renewable energy power plants up to 5,000 megawatts under a short-term program, Deputy Minister of Energy and Head of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization Mohammad Satkin said, Trend reports citing Ministry.
According to Satkin, reducing the use of fossil fuels and addressing environmental problems are the two main goals in increasing the number of alternative renewable energy power plants.
The official added that with the cooperation of the private sector, the production of alternative renewable energy has reached 885 megawatts in Iran.
The deputy minister said that so far, the potential for electricity generation has reduced the consumption of natural gas b 1.22 billion cubic meters.
"Moreover, as a result of the operations of alternative renewable energy plants, the release of 3 million tons of greenhouse gases into the environment was prevented," he noted.
According to the organization, 10 stations at alternative renewable energy plants were commissioned in the last Iranian year in the country (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).
