Iran reveals date of commissioning of processing plant in South Pars gas field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 29

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend

The processing plant of the 14th phase of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (this field is called North Dome in Qatar) will be commissioned by the end of June 2021, said Mohammad Mehdi Tavassolipour, supervising contractor of the development project of the Phase 14 of the South Pars gas field, Trend reports citing Shana news agency.

According to Tavassolipour, at present, the construction work at this processing plant has been completed by more than 83 percent.

Tavassolipour added that problems asociated with the spread of the coronavirus and limited financial resources are the main reasons for the delay in the construction of the processing plant, but every effort is being made to eliminate these problems.

The official said that with the exception of Phase 11 of the South Pars gas field, the Phase 14 processing plant is the last processing plant to be commissioned at this field.

"As for the production from Phase 14, currently, 56 million cubic meters of gas are produced daily from this phase. The last platform, Platform D, 14 was commissioned on the last day of last Iranian year on March 19, 2020,” he said.

Tavassolipour said that the sour gas produced from this phase is sent to the processing plants of phases 12 and 19 for sweetening. At the same time, the focus is on using the potential of the 13th phase processing plant to sweeten the gas produced from Phase 14.

According to the target set for the development project of Phase 14 of the South Pars gas field, with the full commissioning of this project, 50 million cubic meters of sweet gas, 75,000 barrels of gas condensate, 400 tons of sulfur, 1 million tons of liquefied gas and 1 million tons of ethane will be extracted from the field. Presently, platforms 14A, 14B, 14C and 14D produce a total of 56 million cubic meters of gas daily.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. At present, Iran's daily gas production from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.

Gas from Iran's South Pars gas field is transported to refineries in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in the port city of Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr province via a gas pipeline.
