Shah Deniz: 10-year review of opex and capex

BP’s spending on Azerbaijan’s giant Shah Deniz gas and condensate field has changed by $374 million between 2010 and 2019, Trend reports.

In 2010 Shah Deniz spent $ 170.4 million in operating expenditure and $389.6 million in capital expenditure.

During 2011, BP’s operating expenditure on Shah Deniz rose to $190.7 million and capital expenditure increased to $674.9 million.

The data for 2012 was not available on BP’s website.

BP continued to rise its operating and capital expenditure on Shah Deniz during 2013, with around $200 million in operating expenditure and $1,700 million in capital expenditure.

Shah Deniz operating expenditure doubled to reach approximately $0.4 billion in 2014, while capital expenditure rose to $3.9 billion, the majority of which was associated with the Shah Deniz Stage 2 project.

Shah Deniz spent approximately $482 million in operating expenditure and $4.37 billion in capital expenditure in 2015.

In 2016, BP reduced its spending on Shah Deniz with approximately $469 million in operating expenditure and about $3.7 billion in capital expenditure.

The company’s spending on Shah Deniz continued downward trend in 2017 standing at approximately $451 million in operating expenditure and about $2.88 billion in capital expenditure, the majority of which was associated with the Shah Deniz 2 project.

BP recorded a peak in operating expenditure on Shah Deniz in 2018 with peak $578 million, while more than $1.44 billion was spent in capital expenditure.

In 2019, Shah Deniz spent about $544 million in operating expenditure and $1.1 billion in capital expenditure, the majority of which was associated with the Shah Deniz 2 project.

Shah Deniz participating interests are: BP (operator – 28.8 percent), TPAO (19.0 percent), AzSD (10.0 percent), SGC Upstream (6.7 percent), PETRONAS (15.5 percent), LUKOIL (10.0 percent) and NICO (10.0 percent).
