About 23 oil and gas wells were drilled and improved in Iran in the first two months of current Iranian year (March 20-May 20, 2020), said Babak Zanganeh, program director of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), Trend reports with reference to the company’s website.
According to Zanganeh, of these wells, 12 accounted for 'well delineation and well development', the other 11 - for repairs.
Zanganeh added that 19 wells were drilled in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 1 well in the territory of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company, 2 wells in the territory of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) and handed over to the companies.
The director said that during this period, 59 light and heavy drilling rigs of the NIDC were used.
"The total depth of oil and gas wells drilled in the onshore and offshore areas of Iran was 17,200 meters," he said.
Zanganeh said that the NIDC has more than 70 drilling rigs. At present, 22 rigs are located in the south-western part of Iran, mainly in the territory of NISOC.
The director said that 9 of these drilling rigs will be used for Well Development, 1 for Well Delineation and 12 for repair wells.
Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
