By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

As of 2019, the price of one cubic meter of natural gas in Georgia was 55.13 tetri, which is much lower than in most European countries, Trend reports citing the annual report of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) for 2019.

GNERC emphasizes that gas is cheaper than in Georgia only in the countries producing natural gas - in the Russian Federation (8.25 cents per cubic meter) and Azerbaijan (10.72 cents per cubic meter).

According to the report, Georgia ranks fourth at low electricity tariffs among most European countries.

The average price of one kilowatt-hour of electricity in Georgia in 2019 was 18.89 tetri (5.94 cents), which is much less than in most European countries, the commission said.

According to GNERC, in 2019, gas consumption in Georgia increased.

“Georgia’s demand for natural gas in 2019 amounted to 2.50 million cubic meters, which is 15 percent higher than the preceding year. Some 99.8 percent of Georgia’s total demand for natural gas was provided through imports, the rest - from local production,” the report said.

The Republic of Azerbaijan was the main source of natural gas supplies to Georgia in 2019.
