BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 2

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

Construction of Uzbekistan's first GTL (gas-to-liquids) plant enters its final phase and is completed by more than 87 percent, Trend reports with reference to the country's Ministry of Energy.

This became known at the extended meeting of Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and Uzbekneftegaz JSC at the construction site of GTL plant in Kashkadarya region.

It was noted that upon reaching full design capacity, the plant will process 3.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas (methane) per year and produce 1.5 million tons of high-quality synthetic liquid fuels, including more than 307,000 tons of jet fuel, 724,000 tons of diesel fuel, 437,000 tons of naphtha and 53,000 tons of liquefied gas.

The construction site has already received 958 sets of basic process equipment, of which about 700 sets, weighing more than 35,000 tons, have already been installed in the technological part of the plant.

"Specialists were selected from all over the country to operate the plant. They have undergone production training at the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex, Bukhara Oil Refinery and at the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex in Uzbekistna and the similar Oryx GTL plant in Qatar," the ministry said.

Uzbekistan GTL, with a total value of more than $3.61 billion, will be one of the most innovative manufacturing enterprises in the region, which will allow expanding the capacity for deep processing of natural gas, reducing the import of hydrocarbons, meet the country's needs for modern, high-quality and environmentally friendly fuel, as well as provide the market with strategic products manufactured from its own raw materials.

Today, the construction of the plant in the Kashkadarya region continues; about 11,000 workers and specialists, including foreigners, are involved in the project, and 973 units of equipment have been mobilized.

It is planned to complete the construction of Uzbekistan GTL plant by the end of 2020, and at the moment, some technological units of the plant have already started pre-commissioning works.
