Turkmenistan, other participants of ECT Modernization Group to ensure energy transit

Turkmenistan and other participants of the Modernization Group of Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) confirmed their readiness to ensure stability of energy transit and highlighted the need to coordinate efforts in this sphere, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

A meeting of the group was held via videoconference on June 2, 2020.

The multilateral negotiations were attended by representatives of the Energy Charter Secretariat and delegations from the European Union, Austria, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Belgium, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Georgia, Spain, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Turkey, Finland, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia, and Japan.

At the meeting, Turkmenistan was represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkmengaz State Concern.

The participants discussed issues of modernizing the Energy Charter Treaty and practical, regulatory and legal aspects of energy transit.

One of the ECT sessions was held in Ashgabat in November 2017, during which the Ashgabat Energy Charter Declaration was adopted.
