Wind power plant construction underway in Kazakhstan's Zhambyl

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jun. 5

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Kazakhstan’s Wind Power City company is constructing a wind power plant in the country’s Zhambyl region, Trend reports with reference to the regional press office.

The project’s implementation progress was discussed during a working visit of the region’s Head Berdibek Saparbayev to the construction site.

As noted during the visit, a total of 1.8 billion tenge ($4.5 million) were attracted for the project’s implementation, and seven wind generators with a total capacity of 9 MW per hour have been built, as of now.

“The investors say that the power plant will start operating in early August. The second stage of the project implementation oversees increase of the windmills number by another nine units,” the report said.

“Zhambyl region has significant potential in the field of alternative energy. Use of the region's climatic conditions as efficiently as possible is a necessity. With the help of renewable energy projects, both provision of electricity to many settlements and preservation of region’s ecology is possible,” Saparbayev said.

Based on some estimates, country’s potential for solar energy production ranges from 3.9 to 5.4 billion WH per year, whereas the ‘ceiling’ of wind power is 920 billion kWh per year.

As of the end of 2019, 90 renewable energy sources (RES) of 1,050 MW of capacity were operating in Kazakhstan including 19 wind parks (283.8 MW), 31 solar parks (541.7 MW), 37 hydropower plants (222.2 MW) and three biopower plants.

This year, the number of RES facilities is to be increased from 90 to 108 with the total capacity of 1,655 MW this year.
