Turkmenistan develops packers to increase oil field productivity

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

The Balkan department of Turkmenistan’s International Oil and Gas University has designed packers used for separation of layers, isolation of columns from the impact of the borehole environment during the operation of wells and for service and maintenance work, Trend reports with reference to the Oil and Gas Complex of Turkmenistan online newspaper.

A significant part of the oil wells which were developed by Turkmenistan’s Turkmennebit State Concern consists of small reservoirs. The presence of small layers creates difficulties in their development, that requires the introduction of modern methods to increase oil recovery. So, in order to intensify oil production, the design of packers was developed, said the report.

The effectiveness of packers has been tested and proven in laboratory and production conditions.

The innovative research and training center of Turkmenistan's International Oil and Gas University signed a contract with the country's machine-building plant of Mary region for the production of the packers for the oil and gas industry.

The country is implementing the program for the development of the oil and gas industry for the period up to 2030. It aims to accelerate the pace of exploration and development of new fields, increase the productivity of existing fields and oil recovery, and complete mechanization and automation of hydrocarbon production.

Increasing the volume of local oil and gas production, maintaining high growth rates and attracting investments in the sector are the main tasks of Turkmenistan.

Earlier, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed relevant authorities to monitor the work carried out in this area. The head of state noted that it is significant for Turkmenistan to implement the development program of country’s fuel and energy sector.

This program is aimed at upgrading the export potential of the country's oil and gas industry by introducing innovative technologies.
