BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The US sanctions on 125 Iranian ships and oil tankers will not be so effective, Iranian MP Mohsen Zanganeh told Trend.

According to Zanganeh, the Islamic Republic of Iran exports oil in various ways during its economic turmoil with its own oil tankers and other oil tankers.

Zanganeh added that therefore, slapping sanctions on Iranian ships and oil tankers is in fact a sign of Iran's success.

"Of course, these sanctions could create certain difficulties for Iran's oil exports. But it will not be so serious," he said.

The MP said that the new sanctions will not have a negative impact on tankers that already have problems with insurance and other financial issues (previously imposed sanctions).

Zanganeh said that each sanction imposes certain restrictions. However, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum have found ways to export oil under sanctions, for the time being.

"Iran's export of gasoline to Venezuela has resulted in imposition of sanctions on Iranian ships and oil tankers. Because Iran has taken a big step by exporting gasoline to Venezuela," he said.

The MP added that after this, the US has decided to impose sanctions on Iranian ships and tankers.

"However, in general, US sanctions against Iran cannot be linked to this issue alone. The US Treasury Department yesterday (June 8) imposed new sanctions on Iran and added 125 Iranian ships and tankers to its sanctions list," said the MP.

The US imposed new sanctions on Iran in November 2018. Over the past period, the sanctions affected Iranian oil exports, more than 700 banks, companies and individuals.
