BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The production of electricity in Iran will increase by 320 megawatts with the construction of new renewable energy power plant in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Deputy Minister of Energy and Head of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization Mohammad Satkin said, Trend reports citing ILNA.

According to Satkin, so far, 824 megawatts of renewable energy power plants have been built in Iran.

Satkin added that thus, the production of renewable energy plants in Iran will exceed 1,000 megawatts.

The deputy minister said that the contracts have been signed to build about 500 megawatts of renewable energy power plants over the next two years.

Satkin said that a number of steps are planned to encourage investors to build renewable energy power plants in Iran.

While each kilowatt of electricity costs 800-1,000 rials ($0.01-$0.02), 10,400 rials (about $0.2) is paid for each kilowatt of electricity produced by renewable energy power plants.

"On the basis of a long-term program in Iran, it is planned to increase the production of renewable energy plants to 5,000 megawatts. However, it is impossible to reach this figure in a short time," he said.

The official said that the contracts are being signed with local companies to build reneweable energy power plants in Iran. Because it is impossible to pay foreign currency to foreign companies.

"Of course, Iranian companies can have the support of foreign countries. However, efforts are being made to attract foreign investment to the country," he said.

Iran has allowed the export of electricity from renewable energy power plants to neighboring countries.
