Fluxys Belgium extending small-scale LNG services in Port of Antwerp

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Regarding the development of small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG), Fluxys Belgium has launched a Call for Market Interest running from 17/6 to 17/7, the company told Trend.

Fluxys Belgium said it is extending small-scale LNG services in the Port of Antwerp (bunkering pontoon with TiTAN LNG to be delivered in H2 2020 f.i.)

All Fluxys Belgium’s essential operations remain active.

“Despite the major impact of the Covid-19 outbreak, all Fluxys Belgium’s essential services remain operational. Our contingency planning has been activated and we are fully focused on our vital role towards society and our customers: safety and continuity of gas supply. Besides ensuring employees’ health and safety, we are indeed pretty much committed to guaranteeing business continuity,” said the company.

Sectors Fluxys Belgium is focusing on, besides ensuring, as independent operator of the high-pressure natural gas transmission network, the natural gas storage infrastructure and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Zeebrugge, a reliable (the safety of our facilities is our top priority) and affordable energy flows into the market.

“Fluxys Belgium is working hard to move forward the energy transition towards a carbon-neutral economy. Gas infrastructure and innovative gas technologies are instrumental in making green gas available as an additional carbon-neutral energy source to homes and businesses. Green gas can be biogas or biomethane from organic waste, green hydrogen or synthetic gas produced by converting green electricity. There is also the potential of so-called 'blue hydrogen' as a carbon-neutral energy carrier (this is hydrogen produced from natural gas, with the CO2 released in the process being captured and reused or stored). We want to be the transporter of the future energy carriers (mother company Fluxys is involved in many projects: development of a Power-to-Gas installation in Zeebrugge, development and operation of a hydrogen network in Belgium, various Carbon Capture Storage & Utilization projects…),” said the company.

Fluxys Belgium said that thanks to natural gas infrastructure, major results can already be achieved as of today in heating, mobility (CNG for light-duty vehicles, LNG for Heavy-duty vehicles and maritime transport) and industrial heat demand. Switching from other fossil fuels to natural gas immediately cuts local carbon emissions and reduces the impact on air quality and health: nitrogen oxide emissions are up to 90 percent lower and emissions of sulphur and particulate matter are negligible.
