Electricity production to increase in Iran

About 1,200 megawatts will be added to the overall production capacity of thermal power plants in Iran in the summer of the current Iranian year, Mohsen Tarztalab, managing director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Iran.

The director noted that 600 megawatts of electricity will be added to production in the 4th month (June 21-July 21, 2020).

Tarztalab added that in addition, 600 megawatts of electricity will be added to production over the next two months (July 22-September 21, 2020).

"About 92 percent of Iran's electricity is supplied by thermal power plants," he said.

According to him, about 36 percent of Iran's gas is consumed by Iran's thermal power plants.

Tarztalab stressed that the efficiency of thermal power plants in Iran increases by an average of 0.48 percent per year.

The director said that the efficiency of Iran's thermal power plants will reach 39 percent in the current Iranian year, for the first time, and next year this figure will increased to 40 percent.

The power generation of power plants installed in Iran is about 83,000 megawatts.
