Azerbaijan working to develop renewable energy projects in remote settlements

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 26

By Nargiz Ismayilova – Trend:

The majority of the work carried out by the Azerbaijani State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources regarding remote settlements of Azerbaijan is the preparation of a feasibility study of projects, Jamil Malikov, Deputy Chairman of the Agency told Trend.

He noted that it’s necessary to determine the amount of financial resources needed to provide remote settlements with energy resources, as well as necessary equipment.

“This will ultimately lead to the fact that the level of social satisfaction of our population in difficult conditions from the point of view of energy supply will increase and thus we will contribute to improving the living standards of residents of remote settlements,” Malikov said.

One of the most important areas of activity of the State Agency in 2020 was the establishment of alternative energy supply in remote settlements, villages and localities. In this direction, the agency selected 12 pilot projects in villages of different regions of the country (Lankaran, Guba, Shaki-Zagatala, Samukh-Shamkir). For these projects, the agency prepares proposals on the possibility of using alternative energy sources.

Presently, consistent steps to develop alternative energy are being taking in Azerbaijan. To this end, negotiations are ongoing with foreign companies and investors, including companies from China, the UAE, the US and the EU.
