As many as 7 exploration wells were drilled onshore and offshore in Iran during 4 months of the current Iranian year (March 20-July 21, 2020), Chairman of Exploration Management Plans at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Masoud Ansari said, Trend reports citing the NIOC’s official website.
Ansari said that 6 of these wells were drilled onshore and one in the Persian Gulf.
The chairman added that drilling operation carried out in the onshore was held at a depth of 9,000-meters, as well as 2 exploration wells were improved, 1 well was tested for efficiency.
Ansari noted that contracts have been signed on 6 onshore wells and work has begun in this regard.
According to him, drilling of an exploration well at a depth of 3,188-meters was also carried out offshore.
"In addition, a program has been set for drilling of 8 more exploration wells in the current Iranian year," he said.
The chairman emphasized that a 291-kilometer-long two-dimensional (2D) seismic operation was carried out in Khuzestan Province in the field of geophysics during 4 months and the implementation of three-dimensional (3D) seismic operations will also begin soon.
