British Petroleum (BP) company is working on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the first well of Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula (SWAP) contract area in the shallow water area around the Absheron peninsula in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and plans to release it in September-October, Tamam Bayatly, Communications Manager at BP Azerbaijan, told Trend.
In her words, more information about the details of the well will be provided during a public meeting.
"Drilling activities will commence early next year once the upgrade of the rig selected to drill the first well is completed," Bayatly added.
On December 22, 2014, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and BP signed a production sharing agreement for joint exploration and development of potential prospects in the shallow water area around the Absheron peninsula in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. The agreement was ratified by the Azerbaijani parliament on April 14, 2015.
