The Bushehr petrochemical plant in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran) is the only plant in Iran that processes sour gas, executive director of the SATA Investment Company Mohammad Hassan Tavallaei said at an event dedicated to the commissioning of the Bushehr petrochemical plant, Trend reports citing the Shana news agency.
According to the director, 9.6 million cubic meters of gas per day will be transported from the 4th refinery of the Iran’s South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) to the Bushehr petrochemical plant.
He added that the plant started to produce methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane plus, sulfur and methanol with the commissioning of the first phase of the plant.
Tavallaei noted that ethylene, ethylene glycol, heavy polyethylene and + C3 products will be produced with the commissioning of second phase, and acetic acid and vinyl acetate with the commissioning of third phase.
“In total, more than 2 billion euros were planned to spend on the construction of the first and second phases of the Bushehr petrochemical plant,” he said.
The director emphasized that of these funds, about 1.33 billion euros has been spent on the construction of first phase and 61 percent of the equipment used at the plant was produced domestically.
“With the commissioning of the third phase of the plant, the plant can produce about 6.5 million tons of petrochemical products per year,” he added.
Today on August 24, the first phase of the Bushehr petrochemical plant was put into operation in Iran's Bushehr Province. The first phase can produce 4 million tons of petrochemical products per year. A number of officials participated in the commissioning of the plant via videoconference.
