BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 26

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Kazakhstan’s KazTransOil National Oil Transportation Company is reconsidering timeframes of the project for construction of a reverse section of the Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil pipeline, KazTransOil (KTO) representative told Trend.

The KTO official said that the reverse section of the Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil pipeline is one of the stages of construction and development of the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline system.

“The reverse project is divided into two parts. At present, all activities for the first launch of the first part have been completed. For the second part, work is underway to design and place orders for the manufacture of equipment. General construction and technology works continue,” the KTO official said.

The KTO representative said that the COVID-19 outbreak in countries where orders for equipment have been placed, and at the construction sites, as well as the restrictive measures taken in Kazakhstan, had a negative impact on the timely delivery of equipment and the pace of construction.

“Thanks to the timely measures to contain COVID-19 spread at construction sites, taken by KTO, work within the reverse project has been resumed. The project was to be completed by the end of 2020, however, taking into account the impact of COVID-19, the completion date is being revised,” the official said.

One of the largest investment projects of KazTransOil JSC is the construction of the Kazakhstan-China pipeline system (hereinafter - the Kazakhstan-China Project), the purpose of which is to ensure the energy security of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakhstan-China Project began in the 2000s as part of an independent Kazakhstan policy to create a multi-vector hydrocarbon transportation system. Given the scale and strategic importance of the Kazakhstan-China Project, its implementation is carried out in stages.

The Kazakhstan-China Project participants are KazTransOil JSC, MunaiTas LLP and Kazakhstan-China Pipeline LLP, each of which is the owner of the corresponding section of the Kazakhstan-China pipeline.
