Energy efficiency to be increased at Uzbek manufacturing enterprises

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 25

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Starting from 2011, 101 investment projects have been implemented in Uzbekistan at more than 43 industrial enterprises, Trend reports referring to the information service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan.

Energy efficiency issues not only in terms of production, processing, and transportation but also in consumption require the use of qualitatively new tools.

One of the examples of measures to accelerate the processes of modernization of production and the introduction of energy-efficient technologies is the project on “Increasing the energy efficiency of industrial enterprises” under the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan.

The project uses concessional loans from the World Bank amounting to $325 million in equivalent, as well as funds of commercial banks in Uzbekistan.

Some 101 investment projects have been implemented at more than 43 industrial enterprises since 2011. The implementation of these subprojects has brought savings in electricity in the amount of more than 524 million kWh and natural gas amounting to 229 million cubic meters per year. In addition, participating companies have reduced air emissions by over 580,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Projects are implemented in such energy-intensive industries as oil and gas, mining, chemical, electric power, food, construction, and processing.

The financing of subprojects is carried out through six banks of Uzbekistan, which are the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan, AsakaBank JSCB, SanoatQurilishBank JSCB, HamkorBank JSCB, AsiaAllianceBank JSCB, Infinbank JSCB.

Currently, the allocation of €100 million from the European Investment Bank has been approved, which in turn will create additional opportunities for financing energy efficiency projects for both large and small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises.

The project will last until 2023.
