Number of oil and gas wells drilled in Iran revealed

As many as 64 oil and gas wells were drilled and improved in Iran during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 20-September 21, 2020), Deputy Director of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Saeed Akbari said, Trend reports citing the NIDC’s official website.

The deputy director noted that of these wells, one is an exploration well, 21 are delineation and development wells, 42 are repair wells.

Akbari added 50 of the wells are on the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 6 in the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), and 5 are on the territory of Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC).

"In addition, 1 well was drilled and improved on the territory of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), and 2 wells were drilled and improved at the request of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)," he said.

The deputy director stressed a total of 36,500 meters of drilling work was carried out over 6 months.

According to Akbari, at present, the NIDC changes the location of 18 light and heavy drilling rigs in Iran's oil-rich provinces.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
