US Lummus Technology will supply equipment for pyrolysis for Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex in Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the press service of Lummus Technology.

Lummus Technology will supply equipment for four pyrolysis furnaces using a patented technology, which will more than double the production of ethylene.

"We are grateful to continue our partnership at Shurtan and look forward to working with Enter Engineering to expand the ethylene production while reducing relative emissions and operating costs at the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex,” said the head of Lummus Technology Leon de Bruyn.

At the end of 2018, Enter Engineering Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Gazprombank, and Uzbekneftegaz signed an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract to expand the capacity of the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex. The project involves the processing of synthetic naphtha from the GTL (Gas-to-liquids) plant under construction nearby and the development of the production of new types of polyethylene and polypropylene.

It was planned to commission additional capacities for the production of 280,000 tons of polyethylene and 100,000 tons of polypropylene by 2021.

In February, it became known that a loan from Gazprombank for $300 million could be attracted to the project.

Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex was put into operation in 2001. The complex is capable of processing up to 4 billion cubic meters of feed gas annually and producing up to 3.5 billion cubic meters of methane, more than 125,000 tons of polyethylene granules, 100,000 tons of liquefied gas, 100,000 tons of gas condensate, about 1,500 tons of granular sulfur and over 2,500 tons of finished pipes and fittings. The complex products are exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Turkey, China, Poland, Italy, and a number of other countries.
