Iran to boost electricity generation potential

The electricity generation capacity of Iranian power plants will exceed 85,000 megawatt hours in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021), said Mohsen Tarztalab, Managing Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to Tarztalab, Iran's electricity generation capacity will amount about 86,000 megawatt hours in the summer of next Iranian year.

The director added that the electricity generation capacity of Iranian power plants currently amount about 84,700 megawatt hours.

Tarztalab noted the Zarand Thermal Power Plant in the Kerman Province (southeastern Iran) will be launched next Iranian year (to start March 21, 2021).

The TPP will have 2 gas and 1 steam units and will be able to generate a total of 500 megawatt hours of electricity.

“At present, there is a 51 percent progress in the construction of gas units of this power plant. So far, 120 million euro has been spent on the construction of gas units of the TPP,” he said.
