Progress achieved in upgrading energy system - Int'l Energy Charter Secretary General

Progress was achieved in upgrading the energy sector, Secretary-General of the International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak said, Trend reports.

Rusnak made the remark during his speech at the Baku International Energy Charter Forum on the topic 'Transition to renewable energy sources in electricity production, transport, heating and cooling sectors: modern challenges and trends'.

According to him, the focus is made on new technologies for further diversification in the energy sector.

“So, the share of renewable sources in the sector is 60 percent and the process of investments abroad is growing more and more, however, significant investments in these sources are still needed, and this requires international practice. All these points are the purpose of the charter,” he stressed.

The Secretary-General also expressed concern over the escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and wished that the conflict be resolved as soon as possible.

The event was jointly organized by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and the International Energy Charter.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, Secretary-General of the International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, Director responsible for the coordination of energy policy in the Directorate-General for Energy Cristina Lobillo Borrero and other representatives of the Energy Charter participated in the event.
