New readjustments for extraction of renewable energy sources being built in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is one of the leading energy centers in the region, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said, Trend reports.

Shahbazov made the speech at the Baku International Energy Charter Forum on the topic ‘Transition to renewable energy sources in electricity production, transport, heating and cooling sectors: modern challenges and trends' held on October 28.

The event was organized jointly with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and the International Energy Charter.

Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, Secretary General of the International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, Energy Policy Director of the Directorate General for Energy Cristina Lobillo Borrero and other representatives of the International Energy Charter took part at the event.

The minister noted that 560 million tons of barrels of Azerbaijani oil and 7 billion cubic meters of gas have been exported from Azerbaijan so far.

“Some 3.3 percent of the country's transport sector is accounted for by renewable energy sources. Azerbaijan has signed a number of agreements, according to which a wind power plant with a capacity of 240 megawatts will be built in the country,” he said.

According to Shahbazov, new readjustments for the extraction of renewable energy sources are being built in Azerbaijan, ways are being developed to reduce the cost of alternative energy.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy is analyzing the energy efficiency of the region.
