Transition to clean energy in Azerbaijan becomes essential - ECO's Secretary General

There is a great trend towards the transition to clean energy in the energy sector of Azerbaijan, Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Hadi Soleimanpur said, Trend reports.

Soleimanpur made the remark at the Baku International Energy Charter Forum on the ‘Transition to renewable energy sources in electricity production, transport, heating, and cooling: modern challenges and trends’ topic.

The event was organized jointly with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and the International Energy Charter.

Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, Secretary-General of the International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, Energy Policy Director of the Directorate-General for Energy Cristina Lobillo Borrero, and other representatives of the International Energy Charter took part at the event.

According to ECO secretary-general, Azerbaijan has a huge share in this sector and is committed to a faster and better quality transition to clean energy.

“The main goal in this direction is to move from 20 percent of consumption to 100 percent. I call on the countries in the region to transform energy and move the industry towards clean energy,” said Soleimanpur.
