BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of up to twenty Georgian schools, which will allow educational institutions to save on electricity bills, said Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Turnava visited one of the public schools in Batumi (Adjara region), where solar power plants were recently installed. The installed capacity of electrical systems is 333 kW. The total cost of the project is over half a million euros.

“On the one hand, this will enable educational institutions to save on energy bills. On the other hand, in the event of excess energy production, this will allow the school to supply electricity to the system and generate additional income. The development of green renewable energy is a priority of our energy policy. implies the development of such projects that use renewable energy sources, in this case, solar energy, in favor of our education system," said Turnava.

According to forecasts, electricity consumption in the country will reach 22 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030, while today it is at 13 billion.

To reduce energy dependence on neighboring countries, the authorities are trying to make the most of local renewable resources, as well as alternative energy sources.
