The drilling of wells in the 11th phase of Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) will begin soon, said Hamid Reza Masoudi, the Managing Director of Iran's Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC), Trend reports citing the POMC.
Masoudi said that the drilling rig is already being transported to the 11th phase of the field.
The director added that despite US sanctions against Iran, as well as the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, local specialists continue to work within the program. So, the extraction from the 11th phase of the field should be started soon.
France's Total and China's CNPCI companies have refused to operate in the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field as a result of US sanctions against Iran. The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.
Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.
