Azerbaijan increases electricity production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 17

Azerbaijan produced 20.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity during the first 10 months of 2020, which is 4.8 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the report of the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

Of these, 922.4 million kilowatt-hours were generated by hydroelectric power plants, which is 33.1 percent less compared to a year earlier.

At the same time, 19.13 billion kilowatt-hours of the total volume falls on the production of thermal power plants, an annual increase of 8.2 percent.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan produced 80.7 million kilowatt-hours of energy from wind farms, a decrease of 12.7 percent.

From January through October 2020, the country produced solar energy by 9 percent more than a year earlier, which made up 41.2 million kilowatt-hours.

According to the committee, in the sectors of production, distribution, and supply of electricity, gas, and steam in Azerbaijan, products, and services worth 1.59 billion manat ($935.3 million) were produced, showing an 8.5-percent growth year on year.
