Domestic gas consumption in Azerbaijan over last 10 years

Azerbaijan has seen more than 3 billion cubic meters of increase in domestic gas consumption between 2010 and 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

The country consumed 8.12 billion cubic meters of gas in 2010, as compared to 8.99 billion cubic meters in 2011.

The figure continued upward trend, rising to 9.34 billion cubic meters in 2012 and 9.43 billion cubic meters in 2013. Azerbaijan’s domestic gas consumption stood at 10.05 billion cubic meters in 2014 and 11.12 billion cubic meters in 2015, before dropping to 10.85 billion cubic meters in 2016.

The figure was on rise again, standing at 10.50 billion cubic meters in 2017, 10.79 billion cubic meters in 2018 and 11.78 billion cubic meters in 2019.

According to BP estimates, Azerbaijan’s proved gas reserves equaled to 2.8 trillion cubic meters at the end of 2019, as compared to 2.1 trillion cubic meters at the end of 2018. The country accounts for 1.4 percent of the world’s proved gas reserves.

OPEC believes that Azerbaijan’s proven natural gas reserves stood at 1.718 trillion standard cubic meters in 2019, as compared to 1.435 trillion standard cubic meters estimated in 2018.
