How gas flaring volume changed in Azerbaijan over last decade?

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov.19

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The volume of gas flaring in Azerbaijan has decreased from 1.30 billion cubic meters in 2010 to 0.30 billion cubic meters in 2019, Trend reports with reference to estimates of Gas Exporters Countries Forum (GECF).

Gross production of natural gas in the country stood at 25.07 billion cubic meters in 2010, including 16.25 billion cubic meters of marketed gas.

Around 5.50 billion cubic meters went to reinjection, while other losses accounted for 2.02 billion cubic meters.

Gas flaring continuously fell in the subsequent years, standing at 1.10 billion cubic meters in 2011, 0.65 billion cubic meters in 2012 and 2013 each, 0.50 billion cubic meters in 2014.

The country saw declining volume of flaring with 0.30 billion cubic meters in 2015 and 2016 each, before falling to 0.25 billion cubic meters in 2017.

In 2018, this figure further dropped to 0.20 billion cubic meters and rose again to 0.30 billion cubic meters in 2019.

The country increased natural gas production to 26.40 billion cubic meters in 2012 from 25.07 billion cubic meters in 2011. Marketed gas production also rose to 16.81 billion cubic meters. Gas reinjection increased standing at 6.15 billion cubic meters.

Gross natural gas production in Azerbaijan continued to rise, standing at 27.85 billion cubic meters in 2013, 28.22 billion cubic meters in 2014, nosediving to 27.83 billion cubic meters in 2015 and recovering slightly to 27.91 billion cubic meters in 2016 before dropping to 27.07 billion cubic meters in 2017.

The country’s production rose to 28.41 billion cubic meters in 2018 and to 33.16 billion cubic meters in 2019.
