Iran`s Rey Gas power plant restores operations

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec. 7

The Gas unit No. 5 of Rey gas power plant joined the Iran national electricity network after repair and overhaul of the turbine combustion chamber.

This unit, which was out of circuit in order to maintain readiness and sustainable energy production, has returned to the production circuit after repairs and periodic overhaul, Trend reports citing the official website of Iran Energy Ministry.

The repairs and inspection of the combustion chamber of Unit 5, was carried out by the Iranian experts, for five days.

Measures such as replacing the primary and secondary baskets, visiting the blade rows of gas turbines, and filter replacement have been carried out during this period.

“There are about three thousand megawatts of dilapidated power plants in the country, which must be decommissioned as soon as possible,” the CEO of Iran Thermal Power Generation Company Mohsen Tarztalab said earlier, IRNA reported.

According to official statistics, the installed capacity of the country's power plants has now reached 85,000 MW, out of which the thermal power plants with a capacity of 66,291 MW are at the first place among the others.

Other power plants, such as nuclear power plants, hydropower, and renewables, together account for 10 percent of electricity generation.
