Major repairs were made to underground mines with iodine-bromine waters of Turkmenistan’s Balkan region, said Chairman of Turkmenhimiya State Concern Niyazly Niyazliyev, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

Niyazliyev made the remark during a working meeting of Turkmenistan.

The reconstruction was carried out in accordance with the "Program of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan for 2019-2025".

He also noted that Turkmenhimiya State Concern has built and put into operation new large-scale production facilities that produce import-substituting and export-oriented goods.

He also informed about the work in the framework of the announced international tender for the construction of plants for the production of iodine, bromine and their products, as well as for the implementation of the project of a complex for the production of import – substituting chemical products-caustic soda, chlorine and chlorine products.

Along with this, measures are being implemented to increase ore production at the Garlyk potash mining and processing plant.

Earlier Turkmenistan planed to increase the production of technical iodine by 2.3 times in the next seven years. In 2024, the export volume of this product should exceed 1,000 tons.

One of the largest enterprises in the country, the Khazar chemical plant in the Balkan region of the country, uses local raw materials-underground iodine-containing natural and associated waters extracted to the surface during oil and gas production.
