Iran’s NISOC completes operations on first package to increase oil extraction

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 15

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The first package of research operations have been completed on the basis of contracts to increase extraction rates in six oil fields of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), Head of the Research and Technology Department of the company Shahin Kord said, Trend reports referring to the NISOC’s website.

Kord emphasized that under the contracts, the exploration of the Ahvaz and Bibi Hakima fields have been assigned to the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry, the Gachsaran field to the Petroleum University of Technolog, the Mansouri field to the Shiraz University, the Kupal field to the Sharif University of Technology and the Karanj field to the Islamic Azad University.

The official added that 5 packages of research operations will be carried out for each field. At present, 2 packages of research operations have been launched, but in some fields the 2nd and 3rd packages are being implemented together.

“In addition, the exploration of the Rag Sefid, Masjed Soleiman, Binak and Marun (Bangestan Reservoir) fields under the company has been assigned to the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry, Sahand University of Technology, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Isfahan University of Technology,” he said.

Kord noted that in general, the crude oil reserves of these 10 fields accounts for about 60 percent of the total reserves of the fields under the operating of the NISOC. Therefore, only 1-percent increase on the extraction from these fields will result in a large amount of revenues.

The National Iranian South Oil Company is under the auspices of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). The NISOC has 45 large and small hydrocarbon fields in an area of 400,000 square kilometers from the Iran’s Bushehr Province to the northern part of Khuzestan Province.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.

As reported, daily 800,000 barrels of oil and 13 million cubic meters of gas are extracted from Ahvaz oil field, 127,000 barrels of oil and 2.5 million cubic meters of gas from Karanj oil field, 120,000 barrels of oil from Bibi Hakima oil field, 480,000 barrels of oil and 25 million cubic meters of gas from Gachsaran oil field, 100,000 barrels of oil from the Mansouri oil field, 91,000 barrels of oil and 2,000 barrels of gas condensate from the Kupal oil field.
