BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan.12

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The tender of Turkish-Azerbaijani Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline is expected to be completed in the next few months and pipe production will begin immediately after that, Trend quoted Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez as saying.

“We plan the complete the construction in 12 months. This is one of the crucial projects that will increase the strategic importance of Igdir,” he told Turkish media.

The minister pointed out that the municipalities and settlements located on the natural gas pipeline route to Nakhchivan will also be able to receive natural gas in the future.

Azerbaijani and Turkish energy ministries signed a memorandum of understanding on Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline project on December 15, 2020.

The project will be implemented by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Turkey’s BOTAS.

Turkey’s TPAO company will conduct communication and other works within the project.

The pipeline’s length from Igdir to Sadarak will be 85 kilometers with throughput capacity of 500 million cubic meters per year.

Engineering work was completed in October.

Nakhchivan currently receives gas mainly through Iran. The supply of Azerbaijani gas through Turkey will help Nakhchivan meet its gas needs.
