“Some refurbishment work will be carried out at five main installations at the refinery,” the message said. "Some 65 percent of the installations at the refinery will be replaced with new ones. At the end of the current stage, 22 main technological installations will operate at the refinery, the entire facilities of the refinery and 70 percent of the existing infrastructure will be completely renewed.”

One of the most important spheres of modernization of the refinery is treatment facilities and the construction of a new flare system, which will greatly reduce the negative impact on the environment.

"The current phase of modernization also includes the construction of various pipelines, cable lines, a new laboratory, substations, and a new tank farm," the message said.

The Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery is one of the biggest oil refineries in the Transcaucasian region, located on the Absheron Peninsula. The productivity of the refinery is about 4-6 million tons per year with the prospect of increasing to 10 million tons per year.

Higher production volumes at the refinery can be achieved in 2025, when the refinery modernization project, which began in 2015, is fully implemented.
