Iran's petrochemical production to increase significantly - Iranian oil minister

Iran's petrochemical production potential will increase significantly to 133 million tons and the revenues will reach $35 billion in 2025, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said, Trend reports citing the Shana news agency.

He made the remark during the opening ceremony of the 14th International Iran Plast Exhibition in Tehran.

Zanganeh noted that in this regard, 37 facilities are under construction. There are 60-percent physical progress some of these facilities' construction.

The minister added that 10 facilities on petrochemicals production have been launched in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020).

"According to the plan, the production of petrochemical products will reach 100 million tons over the next two years. This is an increase of 80 percent compared to production volume in 2013. Thus, Iran's revenues from the production of petrochemicals will reach $25 billion," he said.

The 14th International Iran Plast Exhibition started to operation on Feb.7 in the Iranian capital of Tehran and will continue until Feb.10. A number of products, including, rubber and rubber products, raw materials for petrochemical products, equipment and spare parts are on display at the exhibition.

Iran is implementing two plans to increase the production of petrochemical products. According to the first plan, Iran's petrochemical production will increase from 66 million tons to 100 million tons per year, and the revenues from $15 billion to $25 billion until March 20, 2022.

According to the second plan, Iran's petrochemical production will reach 133 million tons per year and the revenues will reach $37 billion by March 20, 2026.

Iran produced 31 million tons of petrochemicals last Iranian year (March 21, 2019 - March 20, 2020). Of these, 8 million tons were sold within the country, and 23 million tons of products were exported. The total sale value was $15 billion.
