Iran's South Pars Gas Company declares gas production volumes

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 7

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The 1st refinery of the South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) produced more than 8.7 billion cubic meters of gas since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to date, the head of the 1st refinery Mehrdad Abdi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The official stressed that the first refinery accounted for about 5 percent of the company's total gas production.

"One of the products produced at the 1st refinery is mercaptan. A number of steps have been taken in the current year to increase the production of this product," he added.

Abdi noted that the first refinery has produced more than 517,000 tons of mercaptan so far. This is an increase of 153 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The fuel (rich gas) of the South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) is supplied by the South Pars gas field of Iran. The rich gas is transported to the company's 1st refinery from 1st phase of the South Pars gas field.

Some 25 million cubic meters of gas processed daily at the 1st refinery is transferred to the Iranian gas network via a 56-inch pipeline. About 40,000 barrels of gas condensate are sent to storage facilities for export, and the refinery also produces 200 tons of sulfur per day.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $90 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).

As reported, Iran is currently extracting 700 million cubic meters of gas per day from the gas field.
