New thermal power plants to be commissioned in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region

Two thermal power plants will be commissioned in 2021 in the Kibray district of Tashkent region through direct investments of Turkish companies in the amount of $450 million, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.

It is reported that the main directions and tasks of the complex development of the Tashkent region were discussed at the session of the Regional Council of people's deputies headed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the information, main attention at the session was paid to issues of ensuring employment of the population and reducing poverty. Thus, the task was set to carry out targeted work with 1,048 makhallas (quarters) of the region, to realize their points of growth, to develop entrepreneurship, to increase incomes and purchasing power of the population.

It was noted that 1,108 investment projects worth almost 120 trillion soums ($11.4 billion) will be implemented in industry, services and agriculture in 2021-2022. These are 1,060 regional and 48 large sectoral projects. As a result, it is planned to create 52,000 new jobs.

The president of Uzbekistan stressed that the mining and metallurgical industry, energy, textile, chemical, electrical, pharmaceutical industry, production of building materials, agriculture and tourism should become the drivers of the region's economy.

In particular, this year, two thermal power plants with a total capacity of 710 megawatts will be commissioned in the Kibray district through direct investments of Turkish companies in the amount of $450 million.

Also, it is planned to build two hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 540 megawatts in Bostanlik district with the attraction of investments for $1.48 billion.

In addition, responsible persons were instructed to create 14 new small industrial zones in the region, organize the production of building materials on the basis of 18 unused deposits of nonmetallic minerals.

Moreover, the task was set to turn Chirchik into a city of innovations and investments, on the basis of this model, to develop programs for the integrated development of other cities in the region.

Also, the need to create orchards and vineyards with an area of 16,000 hectares, as well as the industrialization of agriculture, was emphasized.
